Good morning teachers,students and school officials,
It is my honour andprivilege to address you all this morning. I hope you all had a great weekendafter the very exciting sports day you will have had on Friday and Saturday.
Like the coaches ofathletes and teams striving to achieve success on the sports field, yourteachers are working with you constantly to ensure that you are doing the rightthings to enable your success in the classroom. Today, as one of the manycoaches you encounter at this great school, I will share with you some of themajor qualities needed to ensure that success in the classroom is achieved.
Firstly, for eithersport or education it is important to prepare ourselves properly. Without aproper diet, rest, organisation or training, no athlete or student can succeed.Truly, the difference between successful and unsuccessful students and athletesis the preparation they do before a competition. Students and athletes who areeating the right foods, are well rested and have trained properly will alwaysoutperform those athletes and students who eat nothing but unhealthy foods,stay up all night playing video games and waste their preparation and trainingtime. Those who are successful, athletes or students, understand that whileeating unhealthy foods and staying up late at night playing video games areenjoyable from time to time, but constantly engaging in these activities willonly lead to failure.
Secondly, perseveranceis an extremely important quality to have if you want to be successful, eitheron the athletics track or in the classroom. Every athlete will meet severalsetbacks on their road to success. These include injuries and mistakes, as wellas tough competitors and some bad luck. Students, too, will meet hurdles alongthe way to completing their education. A bad grade here, a challenging topicthere, as well as illness and other hardship are all possible difficulties thata student may find during their schooling career. In both cases, it is veryeasy for the athlete or the student to give up in the face of difficulty. Thedifference between successful and unsuccessful athletes and students is thosewho persevere in the face of difficulty, rather than simply surrender andaccept defeat. By never giving up, even when the finish line feels like it istoo far away or the task seems to hard, you will ensure that you will achievethe best result you can.
Finally, the lastingredient for success is desire. No athlete can succeed without desire, in thesame way that no student can succeed without desire. The desire to succeed iswhat pushes the marathon runner through the last kilometre, when their legsache with pain, their stomach nauseous. Students at the final end of theireducation feel a similar pain. Their heads cramped with stress and worry, theireyes tired from reading, their hands aching from writing. For those studentstoo, a desire to succeed will help them push through the pain. Desire is whatenables you to dig deep and find the energy and strength to go that extra mile,take that extra step to beat your competitor or to reach the finish line thatonce seemed so far away.

此刻，我很荣幸地站在这里向大家问好。我相信你们在上周五和周六参加完激动人心的运动会之后度过了一个很棒的周末。
运动员和团队成员在教练的带领下在赛场上奋发向前，同样，我们的老师们也紧密地与学生合作，努力让学生们在学习上取得成功。今天，作为金陵中学河西分校的教师之一，我将与大家分享一些在学习上取得成功所必备的因素。
首先，无论是运动还是学习，重要的是准备好自己。没有适当的饮食、休息、规划或训练，运动员或学生是不可能取得成功的。事实上，对学生和运动员而言，成功与失败之间的差异是他们在比赛之前是否做好了准备。合理饮食，良好休息，训练有素的学生和运动员会比那些膳食不合理，整夜玩游戏，浪费准备时间的学生和运动员表现地更为出色。那些优秀的运动员和学生明白，垃圾食品、深夜玩竞技游戏只是一时享乐，如果一直沉溺于此会导致最终失败。
其次，无论是在田径赛道上还是在教室里，如果要成功，坚持不懈是一个非常重要的品质。每个运动员都会在他们成功的道路上遇到几次挫折。这些包括伤害，犯错，以及竞争对手的敌意和一些坏运气。同样，学生也会在完成学业的道路上遇到诸如此类的障碍。会有不理想的成绩，很难突破的课题，身体上的疾病以及其他诸多在求学生涯中痛苦的事情。无论是运动员还是学生都有可能在面对困难时产生放弃的念头。然而，成功的一步之遥是，成功者坚持面对困难，而非简单地投降并接受失败。尽管终点线离你遥远，亦或任务艰巨，永远不要放弃，努力确保你能取得的最好效果。
最后，成功的最后一个要素是渴望。没有运动员没有欲望就能成功，就像没有任何学生没有愿望就能成功的一样。要成功的欲望将推动马拉松运动员坚持住最后一公里，纵使那个时候他们腿疼万分，胃也恶心。学生在受教育的最后阶段也会感到类似的痛苦。他们的大脑充满紧张和担心，眼睛因为阅读而疲惫，双手因为写作而酸痛。对于那些学生而言，成功的愿望将帮助他们缓解痛苦。你的渴望会让你深入挖掘，找到能量和力量去走完那最后的一公里，再坚持一步去打败你的竞争对手，从而到达那曾经看似非常遥远的终点线。
